Rafael states the following to Fobazo and his official web site:
"We had a meeting with Real Madrid, and they assured me that they believe in my qualities, and they want me to stay in the club."
A lot of the best Dutch players are being linked to transfer rumors this summer, with Sneijder now settled in Inter Milan and Robben in Bayern Munich.
But one Dutch International is now officially staying in his club, since Fobazo can report, that Rafael Van der Vaart is staying in Real Madrid, where he will keep his jersey no. 23. He is now training alongside the other Real Madrid stars.
Rafael: "Real Madrid told me it was never a question about my qualifications as a player, but only a matter of the many new players. They like my attitude towards wanting to play, and told me very clearly in a meeting Monday 31th of August, that they need me, and they see me as a important part of the team."
Rafael also states, that his family is very happy about the fact, that they are going to stay in the Spanish capital. Moving to another club and maybe also another country involves a level of stress for everyone.
Rafael’s wife Sylvie Van der Vaart, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer in Madrid is reacting extremely well to the treatment, but is also very releaved about the fact, that the family can stay in Madrid.
Rafael told Fobazo, that he is extremely pleased with the message given by Real Madrid and he is looking forward to this season, where he will do everything to prove to Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini, that the club made the right choice in letting him keep the prestigious jersey no. 23. A jersey previously worn by David Beckham.
